Accessing Services

Admissions

Defining the problem and determining the proper course of action is the first step on the road to a better life. That's the job of Porter-Starke Services Admissions Team. This initial stage of the process leads to the development of an individual treatment plan or an appropriate referral.

If the need is urgent, our Emergency Services department can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (219) 531-3500.

Financial Options

Insurance programs cover many of the mental health services provided at Porter-Starke. Additionally, we accept Medicare and Medicaid assignments for approved services, and offer fee discounts based on family size and income if eligible. Financial counselors are on staff to discuss options and develop a plan best suited to your needs.

Emergency Services

An emergency evaluation is available 24 hours a day/7days a week for those in need of inpatient psychiatric treatment. Porter-Starke's Crisis Team respond to mental health emergencies at the Porter Hospital emergency department.  The crisis team will facilitate inpatient treatment with local acute inpatient psychiatric hospitals if necessary. Porter-Starke Services cooperates with the court system as well as with families and schools to provide emergency services to children and adolescents.

Employee Assistance Program

Counseling is provided to employees of several area companies who have contracted with Porter-Starke to provide EAP services. For a nominal annual fee paid by these companies, any one of their employees (and/or their immediate family members) may receive counseling sessions provided by a Porter-Starke clinician.  The employees of these contracted companies may call 219-531-3500 and set up an appointment for services. Appointments are available weekdays, and evenings for the convenience of the employee.
