Awareness & Events
The Porter-Starke Services Foundation seizes every opportunity to educate the community about mental health and how it affects us all. From newsletters to fundraiser's to golf outings, Education and Awareness top our priority list!
2009 Art of Healing Gala
The Art of Healing Gala is hosted bi-annually by the Porter-Starke Services Foundation. It's a Caribbean-themed evening that includes a delicious meal, plenty of entertainment and a silent auction of original artwork and items donated by members of the community.
Mental Health Endowment Fund
Since its inception in 1983, the Porter-Starke Services Foundation has worked tirelessly toward establishing programs, funding and facilities that serve our communities. Dedicated to promoting and supporting the mental health and substance abuse treatment needs of our community, the Foundation has strengthened its fundraising capabilities over the last five years through annual campaigns and the bi-annual Art of Healing Gala, held in 2003, 2005 and 2007.
New this year, the Foundation introduces the Mental Health Endowment Fund, created to answer an increasing need for funding of vital mental health programs, services and awareness initiatives. Through this Endowment, the Foundation will provide an annual grant for individuals or organizations advancing mental health resources in our community. An increase in scholarship opportunities for high school students impacted by mental health will also be a function of this fund. Raising community awareness of the entire community, from our very young citizens to our senior citizens, is crucial in supporting and treating those that need mental health services.
