Taking Chance

"In April 2004, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Strobl, USMC, came across the name of 19 year-old Lance Corporal Chance Phelps, a young Marine who had been killed by hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Strobl, a Desert Storm veteran with 17 years of military services, requested that he be assigned for military escort duty to accompany Chance's remains to his family in Dubois, Wyoming.

I found this film to be a touching revelation of the honor and respect that is shown to the young men and women who have sacrificed their very lives for this country. The "action" in this film is found in soul-searching emotions. Scene after scene shows the heart of America toward its fallen soldiers, regardless of one's political views about the war. This true story, based on Strobl's journal of his escort experience, has given me a deeper level of empathy for the fellow soldiers, military personnel, and families of those lost in combat."
