On Tuesday, February 21, Porter-Starke Services will host its Learn @ Lunch series with an informative educational lecture entitled, "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Program for Insomnia" from 11:30-1:00 PM at Porter-Starke Services located at 3176 Lancer Street in Portage. Christine P. Kurtz, DNP, RN, PMHCNS-BC will be the featured speaker.

Chronic insomnia is a significant health condition affecting approximately 10% of the population. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is a non-pharmacological treatment recommended in clinical guidelines for insomnia as first line treatment for adults of all ages, including those who use hypnotic medications. Despite this evidence, CBT-I is widely underused and its availability is sparse due in part to the deficit of practitioners prepared to deliver it. This presentation will include a rationale for CBT-I, a description of the therapies involved, and results of an intervention study conducted by the presenter. Nurses and therapists, as well as laypeople with insomnia, will learn the basic principles and practices of this evidence-based treatment for insomnia.

The Learn@Lunch series consist of monthly educational seminars featuring informative and practical mental health and wellness topics. Seminar locations rotate between Valparaiso, Portage and Knox and are open to the general public as well as clinicians and educators. When applicable, Porter-Starke Services offers 1.5 Continuing Education Credits for $5.00.

There is no charge for the presentation. Please bring your own lunch. RSVP is required for attendance. Sign up today! For more information, contact us.
